Weekly Classes on the Essentials of Yoga - Starting 23 July 2009 onwards
This series of weekly classes aims to provide you with an understanding and practice of Raja Yoga. Raja Yoga is the classical yoga system of eight progressive stages to Illumination as described in the Hindu scriptures, most notably in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
Each class will begin with 30-mins of hatha yoga asanas (postures). All levels of practitioners are welcome including those new to yoga. This will be followed by a brief study of some Raja Yoga principles. Then we will move into breathing exercises and complete the hour with a guided meditation.
The practice of the postures strengthens and prepares our body for meditation, the philosophy gives us insights into making positive choices in life, the breathing techiques help us to take control of our life force and meditation teaches us to be the
master of our mind, body and emotions.
