Pushkar, is one of my personal favorite towns in India. It's free from the usual kerfuffle of traffic and noise. Built around a holy lake, Pushkar is a place of pilgrimage for many Hindus and a safe haven for travelers wanting some quiet time. It's also famed for having the only temple dedicated to the Hindu god Brahma.
The lake side is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats and is bustling with Hindus in the morning as priests perform rituals and pilgrims bathe in the holy waters.

Here young priests are being trained in the rituals of Hinduism so that they may one day perform these rituals in temples and at any ceremony.
This is the perfect place to hang out if you want to get a sense of local life and see the residents interact. It's particularly busy in the morning when farmers bring their produce in and many of the housewives come to purchase supplies for the day. Everything is fresh as refrigeration is not common.

The women In Rajasthan are certainly hard working to say the least. It seems like they are on their feet from dawn to dusk, while there are others that just sit by and watch like these three.
