Jaisalmer and beyond

A Night in the Great Thar Desert

This will certainly be on one of the highlights of our spiritual adventure. As one writer describes it "Camping out at night, huddling around a tiny fire beneath the shed of stars and listening to the camel drivers' songs is magically romantic."

Leaving Jaisalmer

Our journey begins by heading out of Jaisalmer in jeeps for about 30 kilometers or so passing through barren scrub with the occasional sights of villages and ruins.

We'll arrive at a village where our camels are ready and waiting along with our accompanying guides. Here's you'll get to experience a true village out in the desert. Desolate with nothing in sight for miles, the locals are friendly, colorfully dressed against the brown backdrop and lead a simple life.

Off into the Desert

The reins are fastened to the camel's nose peg making it easy to steer these eco-friendly vehicles of the Thar. Stirrups are used as well making the journey a lot more comfortable.

We'll ride for 2 to 3 hours passing shrub land and crossing sand dunes. If we are lucky we'll also get to see a variety of animals that make the Thar their home.

Chefs in the Desert

The guides turn chef as the suns slowly starts to set in the horizon. Within minutes a fire is started and a spicy aroma fills the desert air. Dinner is simple but delicious as we gather around the camp fire, share stories and be enchanted by the camel drivers' songs.
