Swamimalai
Swamimalai is a sleepy little town renowned for craftsmen specialising in the creation of 5-metal statues. Neighbouring Swamimalai are the towns of Kumbakonam and Darasuram, home to some of South India's most beautiful temples.
The 850-year old intricately carved Airatesvara temple in Darasuram.
This Chola style temple was constructed by King Raja Raja Chola II.
The temple is dedicated to God Siva. In the main shrine a huge Lingam stands, illuminated by natural light.
Swamimalai town is famous for its metal sculptors who create amazingly, detailed metal statues.
